הנרייטה סאלד (סולד) 1860-1945הנרייטה הייתה מחנכת, עובדת סוֹצִיאָלִית, סופרת ופעילה ציונית שהיתה מעורבת בבעיות של החברה בארץ. היא הקדישה את חייה לשני דברים עיקריים: טיפול באנשים שסבלו מרדיפות בזמן מלחמת העולם השנייה וחינוך הנוער. הנרייטה סאלד נולדה בעיר בּוֹלטִימוֹר במזרח ארצות הברית, ושם גדלה ופעלה בתחומי החינוך והתרבות היהודית. היא היתה האישה הראשונה שלמדה בבית המדרש לרבנים קונסרבטיביים בניו- יורק, אך לא הוסמכה לרבנות. בשנת 1909 הגיעה הנרייטה לראשונה לארץ ישראל. היא הגיעה לביקור יחד עם אִמָּהּ, והשתיים הזדעזעו מהתנאים הקשים בארץ, מהעוני, מהמחלות ומהזוהמה. ביקור זה הביא את הנרייטה להקים ב- 1912 את הסתדרות הנשים הציונית בארה"ב "הדסה", ארגון שנועד לסייע ליישוב היהודי ולמפעל הציוני בא"י, להביא לארץ שירותי רפואה וסיוע. הנרייטה שימשה כנשיאת הארגון. בשנת 1920 עלתה לארץ ישראל כדי לרכז את מחלקת החינוך והבריאות בהנהלה הציונית. היא הקימה את בית- הספר הראשון לאחיות בארץ ומרפאות ציבוריות של "הדסה" הוקמו בכל רחבי הארץ ויצרו את הַתַּשְׁתִּית (=היסודות) למערכת הרפואית בישראל. היא היתה יושבת הראש של הסתדרות הנשים העבריות. בשנת 1931 נבחרה לעמוד בראש השירות הארצי לעבודה סוציאלית של ההנהלה הציונית. הנרייטה סאלד הקימה את בית הספר הראשון לעובדות סוציאליות בארץ ישראל, ייסדה בתי- ספר מקצועיים ועסקה בשיקום נוער עבריין. לאחר שהסוכנות היהודית אישרה את רעיון "עליית הנוער", שהגתה רחה פריאר (למען העלאת נוער יהודי לפני ובזמן מלחמת העולם ה- II), התמנתה הנרייטה סאלד בשנת 1933, לעמוד בראש מפעל זה ושימשה בתפקיד זה עד יום מותה. פועלה במסגרת "עליית הנוער", זיכה אותה בכינוי " אֵם היישוב". הנרייטה סאלד נפטרה ב- ל' בשבט בשנת 1945 בירושלים. תאריך זה צוין מידיי שנה כ"יום האם" (כיום "יום המשפחה"), כאות הוקרה על היותה "אֵם" לבני נוער היהודיים בהם טיפלה. להנרייטה לא היו ילדים משלה, אולם היא היתה אֵם לרבבות ילדים אחרים. על כך אמרה: "הייתי מחליפה הכל- תמורת ילד אחד משלי." קיבוץ כפר סאלד שבגליל העליון, מכון סאלד למחקר מדעי ההתנהגות בירושלים וכפר הנוער "רמת הדסה סאלד" נקראים על שמה.
