מרחבי הרשת משפיעים על חיינו בכל התחומים, זאת בשל האפשרויות האינסופיות של נגישות למידע, שיתוף, יצירה ותקשורת. אלו מציבים בפנינו אתגרים חדשים המעוררים חשיבה מחודשת על גבולות חופש הביטוי, זכויות הפרט ודפוסי התנהגות שונים שהשתרשו במאה ה-21.עלינו כמחנכים וגם כהורים לשמור על רווחתם ושלומם של הילדים במרחב הממשי והמקוון ולתת להם כלים להתנהלות נבונה במרחב הווירטואלי. לפיכך, על מנת שנוכל ליישם את מטרותינו החינוכיות, חוזר מנכ"ל "אתיקה ומוגנות ברשת" מנחה את בתי הספר לבנות תכנית התערבות "חיים ברשת" שאותה יוביל צוות תכנית "חיים ברשת" . להלן מטרות התכנית: 1. לחשוף את המורים למרחב המקוון בכלל ולעולמם של הילדים בפרט תוך כדי מתן כלים לחינוך לגלישה בטוחה ונבונה ברשת האינטרנט.
2. לחנך את התלמידים להתנהלות נבונה ברשת תוך כדי שמירה על אתיקה ומוגנות, שימוש במידע תוך כדי בקרה, זהירות, תבונה, אחריות, יושר וכבוד כלפי הזולת וכלפי המידע, שמירה על זכויות יוצרים, שמירה על פרטיות, ובעיקר להיות ערים לסכנות. כל זאת תוך כדי הקניית כלים התנהגותיים וטכנולוגיים להתמודדות עם הסביבה הווירטואלית.
